Nov 8, 2010

Cool, Christian´s been wanting to drive forever. The weather here is crazy. Completely crazy. I got windburned on my face Saturday from cold and 4 people at church and afterwards have commented on how burned my face is. You cannot use sunblock to protect from windburn. And my sunblock is 30, but I heard for your face, you´re supposed to use 80. Oops. Maybe when it gets warmer I´ll worry about it.

Glad to hear you finally got all my stuff I´ve been sending. I´m not a complete slacker when it comes to mail. I send letters. Pictures of the family are always nice to get. I hope you enjoy all the pictures you got, I really don´t take many. Hope you´re all being good and CTRing!

Sounds busy. We didn´t do too much this week. We were supposed to have two baptisms, but we only had one. One of them was sick Sunday. He´s old and doesn´t have the greatest health. We hope Hno Martin can be baptized this Saturday with Monica and her daughter Gerelyn. We will see...b-c we need to talk to him about it.

Last Monday was Ferriado...the day of the dead where everyone visits cemetaries and flies kites. It was a good day for pday b-c nobody was home that weekend. I heard of some elders that went and taught in the cemetary to people on their pday. Way to go Elders. Maybe I´ll do that next Ferriado... Not. B-c I´ll be home, but it´s a good idea to find people and teach the gospel to people who would appreciate the message.

We ate lots of fiambre. It´s a traditional meal they only eat on that day...or for that week. It´s a beet salad that´s really expensive. It´s 75 to 100 quetzals for a salad. It´s pretty good, but for that price, no. Beat salad with sweet pickels and a mustard sauce. Well, not terribly fancy really..With chopped up ham and those gross little corns soaked in vinegar. I threw mine away.

We got to eat it at a member´s house and were given a salad by an investigator. I ate the corns at the house, I tossed the corns at our house.

This week we were talking about how our comp. in the trio who left, hna Calderone, said we needed to be selective with our clothes Sundays b-c the member´s notice. We were talking with a newly moved in member about how we wear the same things every day etc. Anyway, 10 minutes later we were walking to an appointment and got a ride from another member. During the drive, we talked about a morning baptism. He said Martin needed to bring a different sweater, b-c the one he´s worn the last three Sundays just isn´t going going to be warm enough. It was pretty funny.

My belly button got infected this week. I don´t know how, I don´t know why. But it was gross, and with some alcohol and drying it out after showering...it´s better. Very weird.

Hno Martin during the baptismal paperwork session also said his daughters were born on Wednesday and Friday. He didn´t remember the dates, just the days. Later, when asked about his wife´s birthday, the elder filling out the paperwork jokingly said, ¨Let me guess, Friday?¨ Hno Martin said, ¨No, it was a Thursday.¨ It was also pretty funny when it happened.

We have changes, if we have changes, tonight. I think I´m going to be moved out to the jungle again. If I stay or if Hna Gonzalez leaves, we will all be very surprised. I don´t know why I feel the change...but if nothing changes, I will be surprised. I can do it. The Lord loves me and knows what I can handle.

I also love the library. Very good resource. Doing dishes is a necessary. I would say evil, but I like doing the dishes. Just do them as they come, and don´t wait for a pile and it´s manageable. There are always going to be dishes, so why not enjoy it? I wash most of our dishes here. It´s way better than having a mountain of smelly, crusty dishes with roaches crawling all over? Am I right?
The church is true and God loves you! Love, Hna Peterson

My comp. loves salt and sugar in our food and we can´t put the salt in after b-c it makes her feel sick. So we get really salty..the both of us...during meals. I decided I like my food plainer b-c I feel like tons of salt, sugar and grease is bad for me. Yea, I know it is, but somehow, it just doesn´t matter to Guatemalans. We found some new people to teach Sunday. That´s a good thing b-c we haven´t found anyone new in about 2 weeks. Which is part of the reason I think the Lord will give us some kind of change. Last week, when I was furious about something, silently furious, I prayed for a change..of heart or comps. Either one. If it´s just a change of heart, that´s ok too. It will do. You´re the best. Grant, Keep visiting the temple! Love, Hna Peterson
